Common questions
Where does the nutrient data come from? USDA FoodData Central (public domain) for 13,694 foods and 434,111 packaged-food barcodes, and Open Food Facts (ODbL) for other barcodes. Every value in the app shows its source.
Why does a value say ESTIMATED? Many package labels leave out phosphorus, and older ones leave out potassium. You can borrow the value from a similar USDA food; the app marks it ESTIMATED wherever it appears.
Where is my data stored? Only on your iPhone. There are no accounts. Use More › Backup & restore to save a backup file.
How do I restore a purchase or cancel? In the app: More › Settings › Restore purchases. To cancel: iPhone Settings › your name › Subscriptions.
Who sets my limits? Your care team. The app shows general published ranges with their sources only as a starting point.
Medical disclaimer
Kidney Compass is a food and nutrient lookup and diary. It is not medical advice and it is not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
Nutrient values come from USDA FoodData Central, Open Food Facts and package labels, or from your own entries. They describe the food as listed in that source and may differ from the food you eat. Values marked ESTIMATED are borrowed from a similar food and may be wrong.
The daily limits suggested in the app are general published ranges, not personal advice. Your kidney care team (nephrologist or renal dietitian) should set your limits. Always talk to them before changing your diet, fluids or medicines, and never ignore or delay medical advice because of something in this app.
If you feel unwell, have symptoms such as muscle weakness, an irregular heartbeat or trouble breathing, call your doctor or emergency services right away.
